About the course of study

The study of Social Work includes not only issues strictly related to social work, but also from the area of sciences directly related to the profession: sociology, pedagogy and psychology. Students gain pedagogical and educational competences that enable them to function in educational, cultural and social prevention institutions, as well as in governmental and non-governmental organisations. Social work graduates will have continuous opportunities to develop their skills and competences throughout their studies.

Specialities/educational profiles:

Social gerontology

student is aware of major challenges in the field of assistance and support for the elderly. He has a good grasp of contemporary demographic, economic and cultural trends, as a result of which he understands the specificity of the problems of the elderly and well designs solutions for them. In addition, he is familiar with the basics of andragogy, i.e. the implementation of pedagogical tasks for adults and the elderly. He has knowledge and skills in leisure, cultural and educational animation for older people. He is also familiar with the main aspects of health promotion and health education among specific age groups.

Support for people with disabilities and their families

student has extensive knowledge and skills in assisting people with different types and degrees of disability. He has basic knowledge in the field of special pedagogy – obtained while still completing the major modules, in turn, during the pathway deepens his knowledge and competences in the field of assistance and support systems aimed specifically at people with disabilities. He also has extensive knowledge of forms of professional activation of such people, working with them oriented towards this goal, which is one of the basic dimensions of social inclusion of these groups. The student has extensive information on the mechanisms of social exclusion of disabled people, and has knowledge and competence in designing and providing them with a variety of support.
